Actor William Shatner expressed confusion over Vice President Kamala Harris's 2024 election loss during a conversation with Bill Maher on the "Club Random" podcast. "I don’t know why Democrats lost. I don’t understand [it]," he said, questioning why Harris and the party were rejected.
Maher explained that left-wing intolerance of differing views within their ranks alienated many voters. "Conservatives are more tolerant of people they don’t like. Liberals, especially here, demand total agreement. That attitude is a big reason they lost," he said.
Maher also attributed part of the blame to President Biden's decision to stay in the race too long. Shatner acknowledged this but defended Harris, noting her representation as a black woman.
Maher countered, arguing that identity politics alone wasn’t enough to win over voters. "You can’t just be [a] woman [or a] black person. I mean, Trump got a quarter of black men!" Maher said. He added that “Mexican-Americans fear job competition from recent immigrants” so “of course, they support someone promising stricter border control.”
The discussion also touched on Harris's 2019 campaign struggles and the Biden-Harris administration's immigration policies, which Maher criticized as poorly managed. He concluded by emphasizing that Democrats need to reevaluate their approach, emphasizing unpopular woke policies and poor candidate selection.
