Canada will be imposing their own form of “civil asset forfeiture” for their political opposition, Canada’s Justice Minister David Lemetti confirmed on CTV last night.
After invoking the Emergencies Act earlier this week, Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau is able to seize assets, including bank accounts, without any judicial review or due process. Lemetti justified this by comparing his political opposition to terrorist financers, stating “We already do this with respect to terrorist financing, we already do this with respect to money laundering. What we are doing is extending the same kind of principles and procedures to this situation.”
Host Evan Solomon asked Lemetti if people who’ve donated to the convoy should be worried about having their bank accounts frozen, and he replied “If you are a member of a pro-Trump movement who is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars, and millions of dollars to this kind of thing, then you ought to be worried.”

Earlier this week, Canada sanctioned 34 cryptocurrency wallets tied to the convoy. That came after an Ontario court ordered a free on donations raised for the convoy on GiveSendGo, which the platform said they’ll defy.
