President Donald Trump is continuing to roast Canada’s Prime Minister Justine Trudeau as he seeks concessions on trade and tariffs.
While referring to his recent dinner with Trudeau, he jokingly branded him the “Governor of America’s 51st state,” writing on his truth social:
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in-depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump had previously threatened to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian (and Mexican) products until they made confessions on securing their shared borders with the U.S. on the basis that that drug smuggling and illegal crossings at the southern border were elevated, and that Mexico was serving as a "back door" in North America for Chinese investment.
Trudeau sheepishly said that would destroy Canada’s economy, to which Trump fired back that if Canada can’t survive without “ripping off” the U.S. out of “$100 billion,” then “it should consider becoming the U.S. 51st state.”
