The State Department is apparently holding out hope that the Taliban will go woke after seizing control of Afghanistan.
Spokesperson Ned Price called for “an immediate cessation of all hostilities and the establishment, through inclusive negotiations, of a new government that is united, inclusive and representative – including with the full, equal and meaningful participation of women.”

It goes without saying that’s unlikely; when a VICE reporter asked Taliban members months ago if they’d allow women into elected office, they burst into laughter.
Price then refused to answer who the Biden administration now recognizes as the leader of Afghanistan.
He later said added that the U.S. would potentially recognize the Taliban government if they “uphold rights, doesn’t harbor terrorists, and protects the rights of women and girls,” something they’ve never done before. Price said nothing about how the Taliban would convince the U.S. government that they reformed themselves overnight in that way.
And in another embarrassment for the day, we learn that our generals “don’t have that information” when asked how we’re preventing weapons from ending up in the hands of the Taliban.
