In response to the Donald Trump administration’s plans for mass deportations, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston vowed to turn the city into a “fortress of resistance,” which apparently is just a new term for “sanctuary city.”
Johnston also confirmed that it would also be a sanctuary for illegals with criminal records. He did draw the line at rape and murder - though if that were the case, shouldn’t his administration have dealt with all the rapist and murderous illegals in his city already? Are there murderous illegals roaming his city he's hoping the Trump admin will deport... while also preventing them from doing their jobs in any other capacity?
His plan to to use the Denver police to obstruct any federal authorities carrying out deportations under Trump. So strong is Johnston in his insane convictions that he claims he’s willing to go to jail over them. When asked about Border Czar Tom Homan threatening those obstructing him with jail time, he said he was “not afraid of that.”
Senator Rand Paul has already publicly warned Johnston that he’s playing with fire here - and Homan reacted to confirm that he will indeed be put in jail if he follows through with his plan.
"You [Mayor Johnston] are absolutely breaking the law. All he [Mayor Johnston} has to do is look at Arizona v. U.S. and he would see he's breaking the law. But, look, me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing. He’s willing to go to jail, I’m willing to put him in jail."
"President Trump has been clear, we want to concentrate on public safety threats and national security threats. I find it hard to believe that any governor would say they don’t want public safety threats removed from their neighborhoods," he said.
