The Biden Administration has been an unmitigated failure at handling the U.S.-Mexico border – and they’ll get mad at you for noticing.
The administration has cycled through denying that any kind of crisis exists, to blaming the Trump administration for the crisis they still don’t acknowledge, to ignoring and deflecting from the problem.
Vice President Kamala Harris is Biden’s de-facto “Border Czar,” and has seemingly visited everywhere but the border. When recently pressed on why she hasn’t visited, she defaulted to her usual nervous laughter in the face of actual questioning, and then said she was confused by the question because she “hadn’t been to Europe” yet either. Who knew we were dealing with a border crisis with Europe?
Amazingly, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas attempted to defend Harris’ inaction during a recent hearing.
From Fox News:
Mayorkas insisted that Harris has faced “quite unfair” criticism for not visiting the border region in nearly three months as President Biden’s point person on the migrant crisis.
“But she’s laughing at it!” U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, referring to March remarks in which Harris appeared to brush off criticism against her.
“It’s an insult to say that you’re looking at the border wall. … What do you have to look at? You’re not building it,” Norman continued.
Earlier, Norman asserted that Mayorkas’ defense of Harris amounted to “just words.”“You’re comments are just words, and they’re very unfair,” Norman said. “I asked you a simple question, and I would like for you to just answer simply. Does it make sense for the leaders of the free world to go in to talk and see what’s going on at the border?”
Mayorkas – who along with Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra have visited the border region while both Harris and President Biden have stayed away — responded that Harris was “quite familiar with the situation at the border,” having served in the past as attorney general of California.
The most recent numbers from the border prove that the crisis has no signs of slowing down. U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered 180,000 illegals attempting to enter the U.S. in May, a slight increase for April that represented the fourth straight month of apprehensions growth.
