In a recent appearance alongside President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Elon Musk made headlines for revelations about just how mismanaged Social Security is, highlighting an absurd anomaly in the system: payments being disbursed to individuals purportedly aged 150 years old.

During the press conference, Musk sarcastically questioned the existence of centenarians receiving Social Security benefits, stating, "We've got people in there that are 150 years old. Now do you know anyone that's 150?"

“I think they're probably dead, is my guess… or they should be very famous. One of the two.”

The implication is that fraudulent payments are going out due to identity theft, that once-legitimate payments are going out to the dead, or a combination of the two

Some on social media have questioned how someone could even steal someone’s identity and have them be “150 years old” when Social Security numbers didn’t exist until 1936, 89 years ago, and the first person didn’t receive social security until 1940, 85 years ago.

The answer is simple; most weren’t zero years old when they received their social security numbers in 1936. For instance, Ida Mae Fuller, the first recipient of Social Security, was born in 1875, 151 years ago (and obviously there were other recipients at that time older than her - she was 65).
