Florida Democrat Party Leader Calls It Quits, Admits Party Is in Shambles

Former Miami Mayor turned Florida Democrat Party Chairman Manny Diaz called it quits this week after failing on his pledge to “rebuild” the party in his state.

In his resignation letter he complained about a lack of resources and about how volunteers “have become nearly extinct in Florida since Obama’s last campaign in 2012.”

His resignation came after Democrats had a disastrous showing in the midterms in the state, despite defying expectations in the rest of the country. Even in Miami-Dade, a county that Obama won by 24 points in 2012, DeSantis turned a win by an 11 point margin vs. challenger Charlie Crist.

After things were trending in that direction for years, Republicans began to outnumber Democrats in registered voters in the state of Florida for the first time in 2021, and as of 2022 have a nearly 400,000 lead in registrations.

Governor DeSantis generated applause when reacting to the news at a presser; telling the audience “In terms of the resignation of the other party’s chairman, there ain’t many — as many Democrats around there used to be in the state of Florida, and we had something to do with that in November of 2022.”

“And if you think this is the first time, so Tuesday, after the inauguration, because it wasn’t just the governor, it was all the cabinet members, it was the first time in 150 years that there’s not a single Democrat in statewide office in the state of Florida,” he added.
