At least one Democrat in the House of Representatives is actively seeking to unseat socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2020.
Speaking to The Hill on condition of anonymity, the Congressman said, “What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson. You’ve got numerous council people and state legislators who’ve been waiting 20 years for that seat. I’m sure they can find numerous people who want that seat in that district.”
The New York delegation has eyed Ocasio-Cortez with skepticism ever since last summer when the 29-year-old self-described democratic socialist shocked the political world and defeated then-Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) in what many thought would be a sleepy primary race. Crowley, a Queens powerbroker and affable House Democratic Caucus chairman, had been considered a possible future Speaker.
Many establishment Democrats have been critical of Ocasio-Cortez and her attacks on fellow Democrats and her far-left policy stances.
Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) recently said of the freshman Congresswoman “meteors fizz out.”
Hastings continued, “What she will learn in this institution is that it’s glacial to begin with, and therefore no matter how far you rise, that’s just how far you will ultimately get your comeuppance. You come up here and you’re going to be buddy-buddy with all the folks or you’re going to make them do certain things? Ain’t happening, OK?”
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg also had choice words for Ocasio-Cortez earlier this month when she criticized the Congresswoman for attacking other Democrats and encouraged her to “sit still for a minute.”
“There are a whole bunch of people in the Democratic Party who have been busting their asses to make sure that women get what they need, people get what they need, children get what they need,” she said. “So you just got in there, and I know you got lots of good ideas, but I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job.”
Goldberg continued, “You know, and just— you know—because there are people in that party who have been working their tails off for this country, and they know a lot. And you could learn some stuff from them. And I just feel like, you know, you don’t have to be born into it. You don’t have to know it when you step out, but before you start pooping on people and what they’ve done, you got to do something too.”
