"First on CNN, federal investigators are reaching a critical decision point on whether or not to charge the president's son, Hunter Biden," Jake Tapper opened. "Sources tell CNN no final decision has yet been made, but charges could include alleged tax violations and lying about buying a gun when he technically was not allowed to because of his acknowledged struggle with drug addiction."

Hunter Biden has been under federal investigation since 2018 pertaining to his tax affairs. In addition to what Tapper mentioned, investigators are also looking into foreign lobbying violations.
A separate source told Fox News that the federal grand jury wrapped up late last month, but no charges have been filed, at least yet. According to Fox:
The federal investigation into Hunter Biden was predicated, in part, by Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) regarding suspicious foreign transactions.
Another source familiar with the investigation told Fox News in December 2020 that the SARs were regarding funds from "China and other foreign nations."
A Treasury Department official, who did not comment on the investigation, spoke broadly about SARs, telling Fox News that SARs are filed by financial institutions "if there is something out of the ordinary about a particular transaction."

The investigation is being conducted by Trump appointee, U.S. Attorney for the United States District Court for the District of Delaware David Weiss.
This news comes amid continued controversy for Hunter, with 4Chan users recently leaking a trove of information they claimed was hacked from his iCloud account.
