MSNBC host Joy Reid stated on Wednesday that the upcoming November 5 election serves as "a litmus test for American tolerance for fascism" and reflects a "nationalistic drive for more babies."
Speaking during a "Democracy at a Crossroads" seminar, Reid explained, "I do believe this election is a litmus test for fascism in America. The elements of fascism are rooted in this nationalistic drive for more babies for the state, for women to be subordinate to men, for a strongman-driven nation, and a deep, state-based religiosity."
Reid also touched on media influence, suggesting that media outlets she dislikes are somehow contributing to the rise of fascism. "We have a media problem. Some of our media is leading people toward fascism, pushing this notion that America has become too soft and feminine. I think that’s part of a fascist litmus test."
Reid further indicated that Trump is espousing Nazism when she referenced a statement Trump made, in which Trump suggested that illegal migrant murders were "poisoning" the country. "This question of whether immigrants are poisoning the blood of the country—that's straight out of Mein Kampf. It’s terrifying to hear that from a presidential candidate. I was shocked that 23% of Jewish respondents even agreed with that."
