According to MSNBC host Joy Reid, Vice President Kamala Harrisâs loss in the election can be almost entirely attributed to racial and gender biases, stating that there was little Harris could have done to win over Latino and white men "because she is the thing that they don't want: a black woman seeking power."
Reid argued that Kamalaâs campaign was âpicture perfect in almost every way.â In her view, the central issue was not the economy, the border, or geopolitics, but race. âThere is no tweak she could have made that would have stopped her from being a black woman,â Reid stated.
Reid went on to smear the United States as a racist country, noting, âWe know that this country has had a history of not supporting the freedom and rights of women, and even some women have not supported the freedom and rights of women at the national level.â She further emphasized the persistence of supposed racism in the country, noting âthat this country has a deep history of anti-blackness. And when you look at the two constituencies that went hardest, that swung hardest for Trump, it was white men who we knew that's how they were going to vote.â
While some voters have voiced frustration over Kamalaâs lack of visibility as a candidateâparticularly due to her reluctance to participate in live interviewsâReid dismissed these concerns. âThereâs nothing she could have done to change the way those men think,â she asserted. âGoing on Joe Rogan wouldnât have helped. None of the things people suggested would have changed anything because she is the thing they donât want: a black woman seeking power.â
