Who would’ve thought that Joe Biden would end up being the October surprise?
With only days until the election, the man known for being gaffe-prone made his biggest gaffe yet, deciding to up-the-ante on Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” remark. In commenting on comments by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Trump’s Madison Square Garden Rally that liberals have been desperately pretending to be offended by, Biden said "The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”
In attempting to play up an “offensive” clip to turn voters away from Trump (who didn’t even make - or hear - Hinchcliffe’s joke about Puerto Rico), Biden managed to completely reverse any potential damage caused - and then some.
The 2024 election almost solely-comes down to Pennsylvania, as Trump can lose every single swing state except Pennsylvania and still win (if North Carolina is counted as a red state) - and their governor has made an effort to distance himself from Biden’s comments, knowing how vital his state is.
While Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro appeared on CNN, where he unfortunately had to speak with Kaitlan Collins, he told the audience:
I would never insult the good people of Pennsylvania or any Americans even if they chose to support a candidate that I didn’t support. I think the real issue here is Donald Trump and his inability to simply say comments like that are wrong, to simply stand up for his fellow Americans. He is incapable of doing that. When he had the keys to the White House before, he didn’t do it, he separated people out, he divided people. He’s promised more of the same and that’s why I think he’s dangerous, and that’s why I’m working as hard as I can to support Kamala Harris and do everything we can to defeat Donald Trump again in Pennsylvania.
Watch:
Biden later attempted to walk back his comment on Twitter; "Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation."
But the damage was done - and we all know Biden doesn’t write his own tweets regardless.
According to the betting market Polymarket, Trump is a 67% favorite as of writing.
