San Francisco Mayor Targets Elon Musk While Continuing to Ignore City's Crime Wave

Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the Biden administration put another one of Musk’s companies, Neuralink, under federal investigation. Weeks prior, White House adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed that the Biden administration was considering investigating the Twitter acquisition specifically, but perhaps they realized that such an investigation would look too obviously politically motivated so they went after a different Musk company.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has since joined in on the harassment, and the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection is now launching an investigation into Twitter over reports the company converted some office rooms into bedrooms for employees.

That a building code violation would be Breed’s line of attack is in character for a city that makes it notoriously hard to build housing, and, as such, suffers the highest building cost per square foot in the world. The high cost of living, in addition to rising crime in the city, are among the main reasons more residents of San Francisco are looking to leave than those of any other major U.S. city.

In response to the investigation, Musk questioned Breed’s priorities, and linked her to a recent article reporting on a baby’s fentanyl overdose on a city playground. "So city of SF attacks companies providing beds for tired employees instead of making sure kids are safe from fentanyl. Where are your priorities @LondonBreed!?" Musk wrote.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has already encouraged Musk to move Twitter’s HQ to Texas - maybe this move from Mayor Breed will catalyze that.
