Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke this morning at the Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum in Sioux City. Addressing the Native American controversy head on, she began her speech saying “before I go any further in this I want to say this-like anyone who’s been honest with themselves I know I’ve made mistakes. I’m sorry for any harm I’ve caused.”

On Friday Warren’s campaign released a policy platform aimed at Native American issues on Friday, ahead of the forum. She spoke about her promises if she were to become President and lamented “The federal government’s history with our tribal nations has been one of broken promises. We need to make change.”

Warren is referring to a controversy where it was learned that in 1986 Warren listed herself as “Native American” on her Texas state bar registration form. The Daily Caller reports “Harvard Law School, where Warren taught before entering politics, referred to Warren as the school’s only Native American professor as recently as 1996” and referred to herself as a minority in the “Association of American Law Schools directory from 1986 to 1994.”

President Trump mocked her and often refers to the Senator as “Pocahontas.” Warren “hoped to out the controversy to bed by undergoing a genetic test” in October of last year, but her strategy greatly backfired. Results showed she only had “between 0.1 percent and 1.5 percent Native American ancestry.”

Ironically, perhaps not to draw attention to the lackluster results, “Until Sunday, Warren’s website included a video fo the Democrat receiving the results of the genetic test, which showed that she had between 1/64th and 1/1024th Native American ancestry.” While Warren initially claimed vindication, “The Cherokee Nation issued a statement on Oct. 15 (2018) calling Warren’s release of her genetic test results ‘inappropriate.”
