It wasn’t just the presidency that Republicans won back last night.

In addition to taking back the Senate and holding the House of Representatives, no shortage of state and local victories went in the *right* direction too.

Among them was the Los Angeles’ District Attorney race, where the George Soros-backed weak-on-crime prosecutor (in name only) George Gascón was ousted.

As the New York Post reported:

Californians fed up with soaring crime have overwhelmingly voted to replace Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, the so-called godfather of progressive prosecutors.

Gascón — who immediately introduced sweeping criminal justice reforms when elected in 2020 — got less than 40% of the vote as he lost to Nathan Hochman, a former federal prosecutor who campaigned against the controversial DA’s “public safety failure” during his four years in office.

Hochman was a registered Republican up until 2023, but then switched to Independent, likely out of necessity to get elected in a place like LA.

“The voters of Los Angeles County have spoken and have said enough is enough of D.A. Gascón’s pro-criminal extreme policies; they look forward to a safer future,” Hochman said in a statement early Wednesday.

“As D.A., I look forward to representing all of the people, whether they voted for me or not, since their safety will be my responsibility,” he promised.

Much like Harris, Gascón has yet to comment on the race.

As I documented in my book The Man Behind the Curtain, Gascón’s tenure has been a disaster for LA:

Soros spent over $2.5 million backing George Gascón, who assumed office as Los Angeles DA in December 2020.  During Gascón’s prior tenure at San Francisco’s DA, a position he held until January 2019, property crime increased by 49 percent and misdemeanor charges were filed in only 40 percent of cases presented by the police.   He was once chief of the Mesa Police Department and frequently clashed with Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Gascón announced that he would no longer prosecute crimes that he says are “associated with poverty.” Most crimes are committed disproportionately by the poor, so this kind of reasoning opens up Pandora’s box in legalizing most crimes. Gascón said that crimes such as trespassing, disturbing the peace, driving without a license, driving on a suspended license, drug and paraphernalia possession, drinking in public, public intoxication, loitering to commit prostitution, and resisting arrest will all “be declined or dismissed before arraignment and without conditions.”

Gascón disdain for consequences doesn’t stop with nonviolent crime either, as he eliminated sentencing enhancements for convicted criminals, issuing a directive statement that said “sentence enhancements or other sentencing allegations, including under the Three Strikes law, shall not be filed in any cases, and shall be withdrawn in pending matters.”

Relative to when Gascón was elected in November 2020, violent crime was up 6% in 2021, 8% in 2022, and 4% in 2023. Meanwhile, property crimes were up 7%, 20%, and 24%, respectively.
