Two members of the so-called “squad” that have called for rent to be cancelled have collected tens of thousands of dollars in rent themselves. Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s financial disclosure revealed between $15,001 and $50,000 in rental income from a Detroit property in 2020, while Rep. Ayanna Presley’s revealed between $5,000 and $15,000 from a Boston property in her husband’s name.
While it may seem that Tlaib and Pressley are advocating something that would actually harm them, if the duo really wants debt “cancelled,” nothing stopped them from doing that themselves last year for their tenants.
