Ted Cruz has no doubt that Kash Patel, Donald Trumpâs pick to head the FBI, will have the votes in the Senate to be confirmed.
While speaking to CBSâ Face the Nation, Cruz said:
I think Kash Patel is a very strong nominee. I think the entire slate of Cabinet nominees President Trump has put forward is very strong. I believe every one of these Cabinet nominees is going to be confirmed by the Senate. I think Kash Patel is going to be confirmed by the Senate. You look at his background, he has a serious professional background. He was a prosecutor, he was a public defender. He was a senior intelligence staffer on Capitol Hill. He was a senior intelligence staffer in the White House. He was the Chief of Staff of the Department of Defense. He was the deputy director of national intelligence. And I got to say, all of the weeping and gnashing of teeth, all of the people pulling their hair out, are exactly the people who are dismayed about having a real reformer come into the FBI and clean out the corrupted partisans who sadly have burrowed into senior career positions at the FBI.
Watch:
A strong case for Patel can be made solely based on who is against him.
As a CBS article puts it, the nomination of Patel is sending âshockwavesâ through Washington.
War enthusiast John Bolton called for the Senate rejecting his nomination 100-0.
Former Obama administration official Juliette Kayyem slammed the pick as one designed so Trump can go after his political enemies.
MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart says that Patel was Trumpâs âmost dangerous pick yet.â
So in other words, Patel sounds like the perfect pick.
Current FBI director Christopher Wray's 10-year term is not due to end until 2027, so Wray will either have to resign or be fired by Trump. One Republican Senator, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, has expressed support for Wray in the position.
