On Monday, President Trump tweeted that “he would only meet with Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro ‘to discuss one thing: a peaceful exit from power.’”
This comes a few months after Venezuela’s opposition leader, Juan Guaido, met with Trump in the White House after Trump recognized him as the legitimate president of Venezuela last year.
Guaido was also a surprise guest at Trump’s State of the Union in February, his name having not appeared on the guest list beforehand. During his address, Trump told Guaido, “Mr. President, please take this message back that all Americans are united with the Venezuelan people in their righteous struggle for freedom,” and that Maduro’s “grip on tyranny will be smashed and broken.”
Venezuela deserves change and for its socialist dictatorship to be toppled once and for all.
