Back in June 2021, Joe Biden revoked a Donald Trump-era executive order that aimed at banning the popular Chinese apps TikTok and WeChat, citing national security concerns. In its place, the Biden admin pushed for a ābroader reviewā of foreign applications.
And apparently, that review mustāve concluded that Trump was right the entire time, as Biden himself is now looking to ban TikTok - at least for his government.
The White House has given all federal agencies 30 days to wipe TikTok from all government devices, and the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted yesterday to advance a bill that would give Biden the authority to ban TikTok.
Press Secretary KJP told reporters that the administration views the app as a national security threat, stating āWell, we have said that we have concerns about the app. And thatās why we have called on Congress to act and include ā¦ how China is trying to collect the privacy of Americans in a way ā¦ it can present national security risks.ā
What took them so long to only be realizing this now?
She added, āSo yes, we have concerns about that. And look, weāre going to continue to, again, call on Congress to lay out the presidentās unity agenda and what heās looking to do and the actions that he wants to take from the Executive Branch, his authority. And so weāre going to call that out.ā
She didnāt say if Biden would be pushing for a ban on all TikTok devices.
