Well Deserved: Americans Have the Lowest Trust in the Mainstream Media

Fight tech tyranny. Join Dan on Rumble.

Our media has done seemingly everything to signal that the American public cannot trust them – and the public has taken notice.

The media has always leaned left, but some at least used to put up a façade of impartiality. That went entirely by the wayside in the era of Donald Trump in which no shortage of obviously bogus stories got covered, so long as it would be damaging to Trump. The entire Russiagate saga was bogus. The Charlottesville “very fine people” story was a deliberate and immediately debunkable hoax. The Russia/Taliban bounties story was always unsubstantiated. That story the Wuhan lab leak theory was discredited was anti-science. The “expert consensus” that Trump wouldn’t be able to produce a COVID-19 vaccine within a year proved how little experts know. The “kids in cages” hysteria was political theater – and those are just some notable examples. The list goes on and on.

While it was never high to begin with, after years of transparent propaganda foisted upon us, trust in the media is as low as it’s ever been, and is the lowest by international standards.

According to The Post Millennial:

Trust in American mainstream media has hit a new low, according to a new survey which found that less than one-third of Americans trust the media. Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford interviewed 29,000 people in nearly 50 countries for digital news report, which found that that the global survey found Americans have a media trust gap of 15 percent, compared to the average media trust of 45 other nations that were surveyed.

Only 29 percent of Americans surveyed said they trusted the media, while 23 percent said they strongly disagree that they trust the media. Almost half of Americans (44 percent) do not think media outlets report on the facts. The survey also found that people on the left feel more represented by the media, with 51 percent of people who identity as Liberal saying their views are reflected in the media, and 34 percent who disagreed. That number is much lower for conservatives, with only 16 percent of conservatives saying that the media portrays them accurately, and 75 percent saying they do not feel accurately portrayed.

The American media’s constant negative coverage of President Donald Trump is believed to have played a some factor in the large lack of trust in media. President Trump received an avalanche of daily negative press coverage, with 95 percent of stories written about Trump in the early days of his presidency being negative.

Below are the results by country (image shared with permission from Unbiased America):

Only one thing is surprising: that it’s not lower.
