After laughing off high gas prices for nearly a year now, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is lauding California for banning the sale of new gas powered cars by the year 2035.
Seventeen states are debating the adoption of California's electric car mandate, including Washington, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon and Vermont, which are very likely to adopt it.
When asked about the ban during a recent interview, Granholm commended California for "leaning in" on climate policy. "Yeah, I do, I think California really is leaning in. And, of course, the federal government has a goal of — that the president has announced — by 2030, that half of the vehicles in the U.S., the new ones sold, would be electric."
