When asked about the disgraced and criminally charged ex-FTX cryptocurrency exchange CEO Sam Bankman-Fried’s White House meetings, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre attempted to play off the meetings as mostly pandemic related.
Visitor logs released last week revealed meetings between Bankman-Fried and White House officials over the course of last year, which KJP said included White House counselor Steve Ricchetti and deputy chief of staff Bruce Reed.
"The meetings focused on pandemic prevention related to Sam Bankman-Fried’s foundation, and general information on the crypto industry and crypto exchanges," Jean-Pierre said.
She then changed gears to highlight how the Biden administration has made it clear that they need Congress to act on cryptocurrency regulation - not realizing the irony in that the they apparently sought advice on this from an alleged fraudster.
